Internships for College Students (Updated August 2008):

  • Telecommunications Test Engineer Intern - Will support telecom testing engineers, and work on individual projects as well, performing product testing for Cisco Voice Over IP communications equipment. Knowledge of basic electronic test equipment is desirable, such as voltmeters, oscilloscopes, spectrum analyzers, etc., so candidates with some college EE/physics lab experience are preferable. Some knowledge of basic PC software (Microsoft Word & Outlook) is needed.

    Students pursuing majors or minors in EE or physics are most likely to have the needed skills, but students in other majors are encouraged to apply if they have some electronics skills, perhaps because they are pursuing an EE or Physics minor, or they have learned electronics via a personal hobby such as building & operating ham radios, etc.

    This will start around the beginning of September 2008, and can be extended for up to one year if the candidate works out. Students starting their senior year of an undergraduate degree, or graduate students, are preferred. Ideally the intern will be able to work 40 hours per week. Work hours can be flexible to allow the intern to attend classes. Benefits includes paid vacation time (20 days/year) and this can be useful to take days off to study for classes, exams, etc. Work location will be Cisco San Jose, Building "P", 125 W. Tasman Dr.

    Pay range is between $24 and $30 per hour, depending on the student's level of education, and skill set.
